Are there life jackets on board?

Yes. The Dualist is fully equipped with enough life jackets to accommodate everyone on board. There are also 2 life rafts, accommodating 6 people in each.

Do you have a trained first aider on board?

Yes. The Skipper is fully trained in First Aid – complient with Maritime Coastal Agency requirements

What happens if I am seasick?

If you haven’t sailed before and/or unsure whether you suffer from sea sickness then its best to bring along some sea sickness pills. Speak to your pharmacist for the best ones for you. Most people adjust fairly quickly on board Dualist and our crew are excellent at making you feel comfortable.

Are there any age restrictions?

Not Really. However, one must remember that sailing is an active sport and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Can I sail if I am pregnant?

Yes you can sail if you are pregnant, however if you have any concerns over this you should contact your doctor. Please inform us on the day if you are pregnant.

Is the boat wheelchair accessible?

No. Unfortunately Dualist is not suitable for wheelchair users.

I have a medical condition, who do I need to tell?

Please advise the Skipper at the morning safety brief.

Cancellations – what happens if I have to cancel the trip?

We will endeavor to arrange for you and your party to re book at a time that is more suitable.

What happens if the trip is cancelled due to weather?

If the trip is cancelled due to inclement weather then it can be rescheduled at no extra charge to yourselves.

What happens if there is no wind?

If there is no wind then Dualist is equipped with two 55 Horse power engines that will enable us to get to our destination.

Is there a toilet on board?

Yes there are 2 toilets or as we call them “heads” on board, not to mention 2 showers, hair dryers and straighteners.

What is included in the price?

The price is inclusive of:
A luxury breakfast served at Largs Yacht Haven
The full days sailing, including the crew.
All transfers onto/off any islands and entry into any venues/tours.
A gourmet lunch provided by Fins of Fairlie
Afternoon tea on board
Complimentary champagne

Are there any extra costs involved?

There are no extra costs involved although you may want to bring some change for any gift shops if you are visiting Mount Stewart.

How and when do I pay?

You will have completed a booking form that explains our terms and conditions regarding payment. The booking form and our terms can be downloaded from this site.

How do I get to Largs Yacht Haven?

Our contact page includes a map of our location and directions.

Where do I park my car at Largs Yacht Haven?

Upon arrival there is a security barrier – please advise reception by way of the security speaker that you are joining “Dualist”. They will raise the barrier and let you into the secure car park.

What do I wear/bring on the catamaran?

We recommend you bring a number of layers with you, including a fleece/jumper and a waterproof jacket. Suncream, sunglasses and a hat often come in handy too. Most importantly a camera so you can capture some of those stunning vistas and yourselves!
You will also be sent joining instructions, which include further details of appropriate clothing and what to bring.

Can I wear high heels on the catamaran?

We recommend you wear non slip soft soled, preferably white shoes. High heels are unsuitable for on deck and you may miss out on navigating the boat. There is a link on this web site that enables clothing and footwear to be purchased at 7 Degrees West. Guests recieve discounted prices from Largs Chandlers.

Will I get to have a go at sailing the catamaran?

Yes! We want you to get the most from your day – whether this is having a go at the helm or simply relaxing back on our hammocks and watching our skilled crew take control – its entirely up to you.

What wildlife will I see?

We regularly have dolphins riding alongside the rib of Dualist. Common and grey seals, oyster catchers, gannets and cormorants are also frequently seen. The occasional porpoise makes an appearance and in Autumn the basking shark can be spotted. If you are visiting the Holy Isle, Soay and Saanen sheep and Eriskay ponies are present in the nature reserve. Spy golden eagles on our Barley and water experience. You may even spot the odd “clay pigeon” on our Quads and Clay experience.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. A copy is downloadable from our download page.

Do I need to send any information/personal details?

You will be asked to provide us with contact details, any dietary requirements and any medical/health issues. Please note all the information you provide us will be kept confidential and complies with the Data Protection Act.

Do I need any experience?

No. All our crew are fully trained instructors and are licensed under the Maritime Coastal Agency and Royal Yachting Association. Have a look at our crew page on this site.

Will there be other guests on board Dualist when I sail?

No. You have chartered Dualist for your own personal day – the number on board is determined by you- who you wish to invite is up to you

How long does each experience last?

Please see the individual itineraries for timings and contact us if there are any queries

Am I likely to fall in?

No. There are safety harness that will be used on deck to ensure you are safe on board. Further details of this are on our safety briefing DVD which is available on this website and will be shown to you on the morning of your experience.

Does the catamaran capsize/sink?

No. Please see our page “two hulls are better than one” which explains why Catamarans have an excellent safety record and are inherently safe.

Is there a safety briefing?

Yes. On the morning of your experience you will be shown an excellent safety DVD which will explain about the layout of Dualist, how she works and basic safety rules to ensure your trip is a smooth one.

Can I smoke on board?

No. Not inside “Dualist”. Please speak to the skipper who will advise you where it is possible to smoke on the boat.
